Castor oil is used orally as a stimulant laxative for constipation, Exerts a direct action on intestinal mucosa and stimulates the mesenteric plexus. It acts on both the small and large intestines, has been used as a bowel cleansing preparation for radiological examination, endoscopy, and colonoscopy. It is hydrolyzed by pancreatic lipase to the active agent, ricinoleic acid. Ricinoleic acid, like other anionic surfactants, reduces net absorption of fluid and electrolytes and stimulates intestinal peristalsis. Because it acts in the small intestine, accumulation of fluid and evacuation are prompt and thorough. |

Dosage:
For Adults:
2 – 4 teaspoons with a cup of hot milk at bedtime.
OR as directed by the physician.

Up to 12 years ½ of the adult dose
